The Keldron Galaxy is actually named for the primary race of the galaxy. The Keldron race was the first known race in the galaxy to develop the technology that allowed them to reach a nearby star system and colonize another world. Several other races were working on the technology but the Keldron were far more advanced. While other races were occupied with exploration the Keldron were actively colonizing other planets.
(See History of the Keldron home world)
The secret to getting to other star systems was the Kinetic Drive Engine. This engine used a gas that can only be found in certain classes of gas giant planets. The planet Fortis, in the Keldron system has traces of this gas known as Fortis Gas. The Keldron were able to refine the gas and use it as kinetic fuel. When the gas is subjected to a magnetic field it experiences a massive growth in its kinetic mass while retaining the same form. The same magnetic fields then push against the gas to move the ship. Once the gas leaves the field it loses the mass effect and can be recirculated and used many more times until it is eventually broken down and depleted. The gas is refined into a solid form that is used as fuel rods for kinetic engines. These fuel rods break down into the fortis gas that is then used as the fuel for the kinetic engine. The gas carbonizes from the repeated effect of mass change and is collected to recycle in the form of a liquid.
The Keldron used their new engines and reached great speeds. Their ships could almost reach the speed of light but were limited by the light speed barrier. Eventually even that barrier would be breached and their ships could attain what they called kinetic maximum. That second barrier would be broken years later with the help of the DorGath.
The DorGath were a very friendly race of insect creatures who study various sciences. The DorGath are large mantis men that come from a planet close to the Keldron home world. The DorGath height ranges in size from 1’ to 10’ in height and come in three different colors. The research of the DorGath led to many advances in technology for the Keldron. The DorGath did not have the drive to subjugate the galaxy that the Keldron displayed. They quietly served the empire with their talents and helped develop the many weapons and systems the Keldron used while on their crusade to bring the White Hand to the galaxy. With their help, the Keldron finally breached the Hyperspace barrier between normal space and hyperspace. When in hyperspace a ship could travel much greater distances but needed a hyperspace vortex generator to open a breach in the hyperspace barrier that would allow a ship to cross through the dimensional border.
Hyperspace is an endless dimension of chaotic space that lies just under the dimension of regular space but it can be a dangerous place to go without a frame of reference. There are no fixed locations in hyperspace but it does seem to have an undetectable level of depth that can make it harder for a ship to exit the region. The hyperdrive vortex generator can only open a vortex through the barrier of hyperspace and normal space if a ship is close to the hyperspace barrier. A ship can get lost in hyperspace and never find the barrier if there is no frame of reference by which to navigate.
To keep ships from getting lost in hyperspace the DorGath developed a system of paired beacons. The beacons sit in a fixed location in regular space and a twin beacon sits just on the other side of the barrier in hyperspace. A hyperspace beacon broadcasts a navigational beacon on both sides of the barrier and creates a galactic position system. The beacons have a short range because hyperspace inhibits wave form communications.
Once the Keldron moved into an area with populated systems they would introduce the races there to the philosophy of the White Hand. The White Hand was a philosophy that grew to prominence during an earlier Keldron civil war. The Keldron believe that the galaxy is a living thing and that all life is part of the soul of the galaxy. They considered themselves the heralds of god and it was their duty to spread that message. Any world that opposed the teachings of the Hand was pacified and the Keldron Empire grew larger and stronger. No world in the galaxy could oppose them because their numbers and their technology simply made them too strong to resist for long. Eventually the entire galaxy would fall under their control.
The Keldron Empire controlled all three spiral arms but their armies were always at work bringing the White Hand to every world in every system. NOTE: The map of the galaxy only shows the basic layout of clusters of star systems not individual stars. The Keldron Arm, The six Kingdoms and The Nurian Federation all eventually fell under Keldron domination and became part of the Galactic Keldron Empire. Their Galactic Empire ruled the galaxy for a thousand years until the start of the Trell war.
The Nurian arm was named for an extinct race of creatures that were thought to have ascended to godhood. Many of the worlds in that spiral arm had traces of Nurian influence but very little was ever learned about the race from the few traces that were left behind over a million years before the Keldron Empire rose to power. Once the Trell invasion began there was no way to study it any further.
The Trell were found in the Tychon Expanse of the Nurian arm. The empire had ruled for a thousand years but there were parts of the galaxy that were still unexplored along the fringes of the established beacon network. One place they decided to explore was a vast, seemingly empty patch of space called the Tychon Expanse. They sent survey ships into the region that vanished. More explorer ships escorted by military ships were also sent into the void but never returned. Long range sensor scans revealed an unstable region of space near a black hole that was emitting a low frequency signal. The Empire sent in a massive attack fleet to investigate the region and rescue any ships that might be trapped there. They found a black hole surrounded by an unstable hyperspace field. Around that black hole orbited a collection of dark masses that were covered with Trell remains. The ships found a way to navigate the hyperspace field and once close to the dark planets they were electronically attacked by the Trell virus. The Trell virus took over their computers and killed the crews of the fleet ships before they had any idea what was happening. The Trell used those ships to escape the hyperspace barrier and back to the Nurian arm of the galaxy.
The Trell are nasty creatures that start out as a computer virus that can invade any electrical device and use it as a host. If that host can build anything they will begin to create mobile hosts for the Trell program. Once that program has a body it will seek to build many more Trell and consume anything they need to do so. The Trell will use any electronic or metal structure to build their bodies and even adapt biological parts to add to their structure. They act like a hive creature and their hunger to build more Trell drives them to expand and search for more materials to grow the hive. They form a collective hive mind that seems to have no queen. The
Trell are killed by hyperspace and cannot travel there for even a moment. Their weakness to hyperspace is eventually the weakness that was used to stop their spread. The Empire was able to quickly halt their viral invasion of the beacon network and limit their invasion to the Nurian arm but no force seemed to be able to fight their ability to infest the ships sent to fight them. Thousands of ships simply shut down and attacked their crews, nothing could be done. Every battle that was lost only added to the raw materials the Trell had at their disposal. The Trell Swarm only grew larger. There seemed to be no hope to stop their advance until the development of the Magnasis Spatial Disruptor Bomb. This weapon was invented by the DorGath to fight the Trell.
The Spatial Disruptor Bomb would cause a massive pressure wave on the hyperspace barrier and cause a disruptive field in space that the Trell could not get past.
Networks of projectors were set up near the galactic core at the galactic super massive gravity well. These satellite projectors used the gravitational field of the black hole to broadcast the disrupted field after the bombs were set off. The unstable field created by the combination of the bombs and the projectors causes a random disruption of normal space in the core zone. That zone prevents any travel there. Any ship entering the zone would be dropped into hyperspace with no beacon reference to escape. This field cut off the Nurian arm and was stronger than expected. Several systems in the core zone were lost as well as their hypergates. Some sections of the galaxy were cut off from other sections of the galaxy by larger distances than the beacons could reach.
Beacons were difficult to build and put into place. Even with travel at Kinetic Maximum it was too expensive to move some resources from one system to another that may not have a beacon. A solution was soon found with the help of the DorGath. They Soon developed the Hypergate system.
A Hypergate does not open the hyperspace barrier but instead opens a direct portal to another Hypergate. Both gates are built and synchronized in the same location and the second gate can then be disassembled and moved to another location within a limited range of the first. Once both gates are set into place and turned on, travel from one to the other is instant. No barrier needs to be broken and nothing is transferred. Both have a hole in the ring that seems to have an unobstructed view of the other side. The rings are large and can allow many ships to pass from one location to the other. The gates can be turned on and off by either side of the gate so most systems that have them cooperate with the other side to keep the gate open and the trade flowing.
When the Trell war ended and the hypergates from the three arms near the core were destroyed, the Keldron Empire faced a major problem. The Six Kingdoms revolted against the Keldron Forces that were trapped there. The Empire had expended much of its resources fighting the Trell and their hold on many systems fell apart almost over night. The Keldron arm had its own civil unrest to deal with. The Marzan quickly declared their independence from the Empire and formed the Trajan Empire. The Keldron fought back but could not prevent the Marzan forces from seizing their old worlds and re-establishing their regional control. The empire was forced to fall back to the Keldron Priory. Several worlds in the Republic sector also revolted and with the empires forces spread so thin it was all they could do to maintain their home sector behind the hypergates. The republic broke into hundreds of independent worlds that eventually formed the Keldron republic and declared themselves a galactic power.
The Keldron Priory controlled all trade from the Trajan Empire to the rest of the spiral arm due to their control of the only existing Hypergates. The Republic worlds were hungry for the resources the Trajan Empire sector could supply. A deal was struck with the three regions to allow trade to progress normally through the Hypergates.
Eventually tensions between the Priory and the Trajan Empire became a problem. The Priory allied with Republic interests to seize control of the Hypergates on the Trajan side. The attack came swiftly and control of the gates fell into Priory hands. A massive fleet of Priory and Republic ships invaded the Trajan Empire and laid waste to many worlds there. The Trajan Empire fell in a matter of months and the priory worked with many of the trade interests of the Republic to loot the resources there.
Colonies were established and the Republic interests grew quickly. The Trajan Empire had been scattered and the Marzan lineage system was polluted so no further leaders would arise from the remaining Marzan. The situation evolved over the next hundred years.
Full trade contact was re-established with The Six Kingdoms about 125 years after the Trell conflict had severed the hypergate links. That spiral arm had re-formed it's own government in the six regions. Each region had been dominated by a family house in a rough feudal system of regional lords. The sector lords ruled their galactic sectors in their own way. The conflicts between each of the six kingdoms had brought great destruction to hundreds of worlds and left all six of the kingdoms weaker than before. The forces of the Empire that had been trapped in the spiral arm had broken into many rogue forces that answered to the various sector lords but that changed about 25 years before contact was regained with the Keldron Arm.
The sector lords realized that their futures would see an extended conflict with the Keldron Empire if they did not learn to work together. They formed the Galactic Alliance. The Alliance was a governing body that represented all six kingdoms as part of a defense force with jurisdiction in all six sectors of the Alliance Arm. This military force became known as the Alliance Police Force.
The Galactic Alliance Police Force worked as an independent force that would enforce the trade laws and treaties of all six kingdoms. Every kingdom supplies people, ships, and resources to the organization. The six kingdoms and their lords are free to rule their sectors as they see fit as long as they honor the Police Force authority and keep the hypergates open.
A collection of very powerful trade interests rose to power in the Trajan sector. The large corporations from the Republic and the Priory became entrenched trade interests in the most profitable section of the galaxy. These corporations established massive colonies and factories to process the raw materials that were found there in abundance. Many colonies housed the work forces for Republic and Priory companies but slowly control shifted to the regional governors.
The Keldron Trade Federation was formed as a Republic interest at first but their real power had grown in the colonial worlds that their members had established after the Trajan conflict. The corporations there worked in unison to eventually expel the priory and major republic interests with preferential contracts and dirty dealings. It was later discovered that the Trade Federation had discovered a planet that gave them an advantage in dealing with the Republic and the Priory. The Trade Federation use of Denarians led them to be able to force any opposing interests out of the sector. Once they had weakened the outside interests the Trade Federation took control of the hypergates and demanded to be recognized as independent of the Republic and the Priory. The Keldron Trade Federation was born.
The Denarians lived on a small world just outside the beacon network. Some of the nearby civilizations had spoken of a world filled with mystics that had great power. The world was located and a bridge to the sector was built at great expense. What the Trade Federation found there was worth the effort. In an odd system there they discovered the world of Denaria.
The Denarians were a group of blue skinned humanoids who had a special talent. Denarians could see the future of any person they met. The talent was limited to a few minutes but the same talent allowed them to see the fate of a person as well. Their mystics are given special tarot cards which they can use to alter the fate of anyone they wish. The cards were useless on their own and each Denarian mystic could only have access to 10 cards during their life. Only a limited set of these cards are said to exist on the Denarian temples on Denaria. A young Denarian girl’s abilities are evaluated and those with exceptional talent are granted ten random cards from the sacred deck. Those girls are then charged to distribute their cards as they see fit. Once the cards are used they retire to the temple on Denaria.
The Trade Federation used the Denarians to drive out the Republic and the Priory from the Trajan sector. They then took power there. The KTF made a deal with the Denarians. In exchange for leaving their system to live as they always have. The Denarians provide girls to read fate and the future for the corporate interests and the KTF profits greatly. The Denarians are not allowed to leave the KTF or work for any other interest other than the KTF.
